The skin flaps are then joined back together with sutures that eventually dissolve, followed by staples or stitches on the scalp.

If a portion of the scalp called the TPFF, not along with the scalp, is used to fix a defect, a skin graft might be placed on top of the TPFF. This could be done, for instance, during auricular reconstruction or surgery to rebuild the ear.
