Blepharophimosis syndrome: severe bilateral ptosis with the chin up position. Frequently termed "BPES" for its components of blepharophimosis, ptosis, and epicanthus inverses). Other components include telecanthus and lateral canthal dystopia. There are two types of the BPES: type 1 is found in females with associated premature ovarian insufficiency leading to infertility. The II has no systemic associations. BPES is almost always inherited in an autosomal dominant manner. Spontaneous genetic mutations can also occur.
